Patricia Oblack

In the spirit of abstraction, I believe that if a painting evokes a special feeling or place in time to the viewer than regardless of what I see, I have played my role in the execution of the art.

My work is influenced by years of self-exploration and education in faux finishing, decorated furniture, pottery, mood, music and the overall power of the surface itself.   I use several mediums to achieve the finished product, such as acrylics, glazes, oil pastels, fibers, texture paint, found objects, metals and the like.

I choose to impart many moods in the pieces, which can be anywhere from whimsical to soothing comfortable places. I lay down the possibilities and it is up to the viewer to then create the feeling they wish to have.

From time to time I call upon spirit guides to open doorways and stumbling blocks in my work. I believe that we all create our own reality and often there are artists from other times and places in my studio viewing my work and influencing its progress. I feel their presence & I see it in the finished product. Vincent van Gogh and Jackson Pollack are among the most frequent visitors, I’m sure there will be more to come as needs require their presence.
